Si Sa Ket is 571 Kilometers from Bangkok. This
is another province in the lower Northeast that was significantly
influenced by the Khmer. Several interesting Khmer historical sites
are in the province. This province also provides a gateway to some
ancient cave paintings that are quite interesting to see. The trip
requires entrance to Cambodia but at the time we visited the trip
into Cambodia required no VISA or exit from Thailand. The paintings
are about 8 km into Cambodia and a tram will take you there but
do expect to do some work since the paintings are located down a
rather steep incline and in a valley. It is impossible for me to
understand just how ancient people were able to put the paintings
where they are since they are located far up the sheer cliff side
and not possible for any kind of ladder.
Si Sa Ket has an area of 8,840 square Kilometers, and consists
of the following districts: Muang Si Sa Ket, Kanthararom, Kantharalak,
Khun Han, Phrai Bung, Khukhan, Prang Ku, Uthumphon Phisai, Rasi
Salai, Yang Chum Noi, Huai Thap Than, Non Khun, Si Rattana, Wang
Hin, Bueng Bun, Nam Kliang, Phu Sing, Benchalak, Mueang Chan, Pho
Si Suwan and Sila Lat.
