The 2004 crop has proven to be challenging up to this point because of the very dry weather we are having.

We planted both Jasmine and Lao type sticky rice seeds with good results from the sticky rice which seems to be much hardier.  The rains did not come in time to save any of the seeding so we bought a pump and have been pumping water to the seedlings.  The Lao Sticky Rice rebounded nicely but the Jasmine is all useless and will be plowed under and the paddy reused.

So far as we are busy transplanting the Sticky rice we have pumped over 2 million liters of water some of it as much as 300 meters from a nearby stream.  We are able to make the paddies wet enough this way to transplant but will in no way be able to keep the pump going with enough water to keep all the paddies wet.  So we are praying for rain to bail us out.
